Rich in tradition, culture, history and a myriad of natural wonders, the province of Bohol has become one of the Philippines’ top vacation destinations.

The picturesque town of Baclayon (located just 10 minutes away from Bohol’s capital Tagbilaran City) is home to many attractions, like: Baclayon Church which was built by the Jesuits in 1727 and is made entirely of coral stones and plastered with a mixture of egg white and limestone. The Baclayon Museum located within the church grounds houses a relic of St. Ignatius de Loyola, antique gold thread embroidered ecclesiastical vestments, an image of the Blessed Virgin said to be presented by Queen Catherine of Aragon and many other related artifacts. Nearby is a monument of bronze statues of Spanish conquistador Miguel Lopez de Legaspi and Datu (King) Sikatuna sculpted by no less than National Artist Napoleon Abueva. It depicts the famous “blood compact” and is at the actual site. The island of Bohol has world famous attractions like the breathtaking Chocolate Hills and the endangered tarsiers (one of the worlds smallest primates). There is also the amazing Hinagdanan Cave, the stunning Laoay & Loboc rivers, the white sand beaches with crystal clear waters, majestic forests and so much more. For the more adventurous tourist there is whale and dolphin watching, bungee jumping and zip lines.

However, Bohol’s real gem is its people who are regarded as one of the most hospitable in this part of the country. Bol-anon’s (natives of Bohol) also have cuisines & delicacies that are truly unique and a “must try”. They value what Mother Nature has blessed them with and they are very protective of it. The air is fresh, and communing with nature comes naturally.

These are some of the many reasons that inspired Astoria Hotels and Resorts to establish yet another fascinating resort – Astoria Bohol.
